Business Studies BTEC

This GCSE is accredited by Edexcel and is designed to enable students to know and understand business concepts, terminology and objectives, as well as the integrated nature of business activity. It also aims to teach them how to:

  • Apply knowledge and understanding to contemporary business issues
  • Develop as enterprising individuals, thinking commercially and creatively
  • Demonstrate business acumen
  • Solve business problems

Assessments

This Business Studies GCSE consists of two exams. The first focuses on ‘Investigating small business’ and is worth 50% of the overall grade. Candidates have 1 hour 30 minutes for this exam.

The second exam focuses on ‘Building a business’ and makes up the remaining 50% of the qualification. Just as with the first exam, candidates have 1 hour 30 minutes to complete this exam.

Next steps after GCSEs

After completing their Business Studies GCSE, pupils may choose to progress on to A-Levels or the likes of a traineeship or apprenticeship. This GCSE can be used within several career paths such as IT, logistics, public relations, banking or hospitality and catering to name just a few.

In 2018/19, 22% of our students progressed into an apprenticeship or employment.
