GCSE Maths

Our Maths GCSE course is accredited by AQA. Content is broken down into Number, Algebra, Ratio, proportion and rates of change, Geometry and Measures, Probability and Statistics. The curriculum is tiered to suit individual ability and consists of a Foundation and Higher tiers. The tier that will be studied by each pupil will suit their academic ability, whilst also enabling them to be stretched.

Assessments

The assessment for each tier of entry consists of three externally-examined papers, all three must be from the same tier of entry. Students must complete all three papers in the same assessment series.

Foundation tier – Grades 1 to 5 available

Higher tier grades – 4 to 9 available (grade 3 allowed)

Paper 1

Paper 1 is a non-calculator exam which covers questions on all of the topic areas mentioned earlier.

Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes (both Foundation and Higher tier papers)

Paper 2

Paper 2 is a calculator exam and covers questions on all of the earlier topic areas.

Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes (both Foundation and Higher tier papers)

Paper 3

Paper 3 is another calculator exam and covers questions on the topics mentioned earlier.

Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes (both Foundation and Higher tier papers)

Next steps after GCSEs

Grade 4 or above in Maths is an essential pre-requisite for access to employment and courses in further education. Upon completion of GCSEs, pupils may wish to use this qualification to support them to progress onto the likes of A-Levels or an apprenticeship.

Maths can help with many future careers, including the likes of marketing, banking, teaching, accounting and retail, to name just a few.
