GCSEs

Investing in the academic and personal achievements of young people

General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) is an academic qualification normally taken by secondary school age students. The suite of GSCEs that we offer at Assess Education will give our pupils the firm foundations to build off in their chosen paths. An important part of our supportive environment is delivered not only through our teaching, but also through specific pastoral care and support – a thread of commitment that runs throughout all our delivery.

The way that GCSEs are graded has changed recently, with levels now being awarded rather than grades. Level 5 is the equivalent of an old B/D grade and is classed as a ‘strong pass.’ Level 4 is a ‘standard pass.’ Level 9 is the highest that can be attained and level 1 the lowest. We always stretch our pupils to maximise their aspirations and achievement.

As we are an accredited exam centre, pupils can take their exams within the school setting rather than having to go elsewhere. This often helps with their preparations and emotions towards their exams, as they are familiar with the setting and the staff.

Our GCSE curriculum

GCSEs are an important academic benchmark for us all, and as such, we take a holistic approach to helping our students to achieve these, combining the academic with the pastoral. Whether delivered within the classroom or via our e-learning programme, our mission is to encourage all of our students to take pride in their learning and achieve their potential. We have worked with students with emotional and behavioural issues, as well as those who may have been out of school due to the likes of ill-health, mental health or gang affiliations. No matter what your circumstances, we are here to help.

Student Testimonial

“I never thought I would be happy in school but here I am, loving every day and am really sad and upset about leaving. I will be forever thankful!”

— RH

Beyond the curriculum

Enriching the lives of our pupils is at the core of our beliefs, therefore we place it at the core of our educational delivery. PSHE / Citizenship lessons take place on a weekly basis for each teaching group, allowing for curriculum enrichment and the delivery of citizenship skills. We also offer a counselling and mental health support service as well as the likes of employability skills.

We want our pupils to leave us with all of the knowledge and life skills that they need to succeed in life.

2019 Achievement Rates

In 2018/19, 78% of our students progressed on to a college or sixth form environment and 22% progressed into an apprenticeship or employment.

We had a 77% attendance rate in 18/19.
